The super hero small screen action continues as Marvel‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts their second season off with a bang going up against an old school Marvel villain, The Absorbing Man. Teen Wolf‘s Brian Patrick Wade goes full chrome dome to play Carl “Crusher” Creel, a long time Thor and Hulk villain. Check out his first official on set photo.
Marvel continues to add solid actors to the cast, so far we’ve seen, or at least heard about, the addition of Lucy Lawless as veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Isabel Hartley, Nick Blood as mercenary Lance Heart from S.T.R.I.K.E., Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall a Hydra operative, Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) as Skye’s bloody handed father, Adrian Pasdar returns as Glenn Talbot, and Adrianne Palicki joins the cast as Mockingbird. Word around the set also puts Cobie Smulders‘ Maria Hill back on-screen as well.
With his ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches, Creel will put Coulson and his team through their paces when their second season kicks off…but you’ll have to wait until then to see how their battle turns out!
I’m glad that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going with the original character style for Absorbing Man. I really hated what Ang Lee did with the character in his 2003 Hulk movie. That whole Nick Nolte as Banner’s father becoming the Absorbing Man just didn’t sit well with my old school Marvel fan boy soul.
In the comics Absorbing Man’s creation was tied up with another of Loki’s attempts to kill Thor, or at least make Thor’s life interesting. While there hasn’t been any word about a Tom Hiddleston appearance, I bet he at least gets an on-screen mention in the episode.
This role could lead to Wade’s appearing on other Marvel shows or movies. Absorbing Man would make a nice villain of the week for the upcoming Luke Cage Netflix series. What other Marvel villains or characters would you like to see join the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast?
