The new TV season begins in a couple of weeks, which is typically a time of excitement for fans, but if you love the Discovery Channel‘s Mythbusters, you may now have reason to be suspicious about the show’s return. Under a blanket of proverbial fog last night, the cable network announced that the M7 build team – Grant Imahara, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci – were suddenly departing from the show. Suffice to say that the M7 trio are a huge part of the show’s success for the last decade, but when you dump news on a Thursday night in August, it’s going to make people wonder: why is Discovery ditching Grant, Kari and Tory?

It all started last night when the season finale of Mythbusters aired, and ended with a surprise message from hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. In the below video Savage and Hyneman announce that their “Build Team,” comprised of Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci, will not not be returning for future seasons.

The first announcement of the shake up came from Kari Bryon herself who tweeted

Then word came from Discovery, who said via Twitter:

Bryon followed that up with:

And Grant Imahara added:

Now you know as much as anyone about the circumstances and reasons for M7’s departure from the show. Hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage will, of course, remain with the show and the prevailing opinion is that the show is being re-organized to bring the focus back to the two of them rather than the larger team of people who bring the various stunts to life. Reportedly, Savage had previously said that the 2015 would be a retooling year for Mythbusters, but no one thought that the retooling would mean taking the M7 team out of the tool box.

There’s also the small matter of basically dumping them on social media at 10 pm on a Thursday night. What’s up with that? Not only is it not very classy, it’s not very professional, especially since you’re talking about three people who’ve made Mythbusters such a resounding success throughout much of its run. I’m sure Bryon, Imahara and Belleci will all land well on their feet, but there’s still something kind of stinky about this…

What do you Bastards think? Will Mythbusters be the same without M7? Will you still watch? What do you think of the way Discovery handled their exit? Sound off below.
