Quentin Tarantino knows how to pull a cast together. Each and every one of his movies thus far has boasted a diverse and talented cast, even when members of that cast may not have been seen in a wide release movie in years. From John Travolta to Pam Grier, from Samuel L. Jackson to Leonardo Dicaprio, Tarantino is able to take actors that may not have much in common on paper and thrust them into a brilliant example of cinematography and dialogue as equals. It’s wonderful when Quentin is able to utilize actors that have shied away from the spotlight but when he is able to bring an award winning actor into the fold, it’s more than just wonderful – it’s supremely exciting. Thanks to the folks over at Collider, audiences may now have the newest name to be added to the Tarantino flock and if their source is correct, the newest addition to Tarantino’s tribute to spaghetti westerns, Hateful Eight, will get plenty of people excited for the project.
Collider is reporting that Jennifer Lawrence will be joining the cast of Tarantino’s upcoming film. During a live read of the script a few months back, there were two different female roles that could easily seat Lawrence – Daisy Domergue and Six Horse Judy. The live read was conducted months ago, however, so it’s possible that there are plenty of other roles that Tarantino may want to see Lawrence play (likely barefoot, no matter which role she lands). During the reading, plenty of Tarantino alumni and other actors joined in the fun, including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, James Parks, Amber Tamblyn, Michael Madsen, Denis Menochet, James Remar, Walton Goggins, and Bruce Dern. The cast of the film has not been announced as of yet but it’s a likely bet that at least some, if not all, of these actors will be suiting up for the picture. Here is the description of the movie at the time of the live read:
The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.
Jennifer Lawrence is a talented actress that could likely fill the shoes of any role she takes. On the other side of that, she is also at a point in her career where she can pick and choose those roles and isn’t just jumping into roles for the money. If this rumor does come to fruition, it will undoubtedly be due to the solidness of the script rather than the paycheck that comes along with it. We will likely know much more in the coming weeks but for your first glimpse of Hateful Eight, check out Sin City: A Dame to Kill For this weekend, as the Tarantino teaser is attached to many of the copies.
