Clint Barton made his first comic book appearance as Hawkeye, playing a reluctant villain in Tales Of Suspense back in 1964. He met the Black Widow and together they tried to steal some tech from Tony Stark, but Clint would soon decide against the criminal life and go straight. A year later, he joined the Avengers and eventually commanded his own team of West Coast Avengers. Though he never made it to the top shelf in the aisle, he was always prominent among ace cards like Captain America and Thor. His cinematic debut was a cameo in ‘Thor’ as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent played by Jeremy Renner. Renner reprised the role in the incredible blockbuster hit ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ and that was the last we saw of Hawkeye. We’re planning on seeing him again in ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron,’ but will it stop there until ‘Avengers 3?’ Renner doesn’t think so.
After the Black Widow made such an impressive splash in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ Marvel just might dip back into that Budapest well. By that logic, a Budapest return would mean seeing her appear once again by Cap and Falcon’s sides for ‘Captain America 3.’ But Hawkeye remembers Budapest very differently, and said so in his latest interview with Collider.
“There are rumblings of Captain America 3,” Renner revealed.“I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”
“Rumblings” could mean anything. There were apparent “rumblings” of his playing a different Hawkeye when he signed on for the role. And let’s not forget the “rumblings” of him being phased out of the series altogether. I don’t give a damn about anybody’s rumblings! Not Renner’s, not The Rock’s, and definitely not my ex-wife’s! I’ve said too much.
I like to hear things like Jessica Jones will be the next Marvel/Netflix project after ‘Daredevil’ and other things like Mockingbird will appear in the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show. Concrete promises are what I’m all about and my ears are open for those. That’s how it was in my day! Or am I wrong in how I remember Budapest? Hey, how cool would a Black Widow/Hawkeye movie be??
Either way, I’m in! Hawkeye needs to get more work for me to sign off on him. I love how he can hit shit without even looking, but the Avengers failed in not arming him with awesome arrows. Sure, grappling hook and exploders, thanks for those. But in the next movie, I need to see him firing off freeze arrows, glue arrows, net arrows, those types of things. My fingers are crossed on that because from the shot of his new costume, it looks like they’re going comic booky all over his ass.
And speaking of Mockingbird, all nerds know that she and Clint have been together in the comics for a long, long time. What are the chances on seeing the two hook up in a movie? Will she transition from TV to film? Just to cameo? How can they possibly NOT link them together? And when will S.H.I.E.L.D. work up an Aviary Dept. for Hawkeye, Mockingbird and Falcon? I am the king of speculation! Hear me chirp!
