During last weekends Wizard World Chicago Comic Con Stan Lee made his usual appearance, although this time there was an added twist. Towards the end of Stan’s panel, Wizard World CEO John Macaluso challenged Stan Lee to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. You’d have to be Amish or living in a cave to not know what the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is so I won’t go into what it’s all about. If you haven’t already seen a ton of videos on the Internet then this one will explain the concept well enough.
When I first heard about this I thought, “Wait a minute. Stan is 90+ years old, is it safe to dump ice water on him? I know he won’t melt or anything, but slipping on an ice cube while making his way off stage would not be good.”
Was my fear justified? Watch the video and find out.
Well, that makes a lot more sense. You can see that Stan tenses up, actually thinking he is going to get ice water dumped on his head. Stan “The Man” Lee was game to do it, but thankfully Macaluso pulled out the Stan Lee Pop! figure and dumped the ice water on it instead.
When asked who he would like to call out Stan said:
President Barack Obama, President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.
That kind of surprised me, I figured he might call out some Marvel Movie folks, but being Stan Lee, I guess he figured he had to go big.
Don’t forget that this whole ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is all about raising money for research to combat the disease. Even if you accept someone’s challenge you should still make a donation to the cause. You can do that right now using this link.
