The more I see of Star Wars: Rebels, the more I get excited about it. I wish I could have said the same about The Clone Wars animated series, but while I will admit that it got better with time, that initial taste offered in movie theaters left a lot to be desired. There’s nothing bitter about these Rebels shorts though, and once again this sneak peak at the upcoming Disney XD show reinforces the idea that it’s going to fun, action-packed and has a pretty decent sense of humor. In “Entanglement,” the new character Zeb proves that while the Force may not be with him, he can definitely still use force.
The short features the feline-esque Zeb (voice of Steve Blum), who’s look is based on an early character design for Chewbacca by Ralph McQuarrie, as he’s trying to meet up with fellow Rebel Kanan (voice of Freddie Prinze Jr.) for an important rendezvous. Zeb gets side tracked though when he notices a street vendor (possibly an Ugnaught) is being hassled by a pair of Stormtroopers. Offending his delicate sensibilities about the treatment of street vendors, Zeb intervenes and… Well, why ruin the surprise?
Awesome! I’m really looking forward to seeing the first episode of this series. Speaking of which, Star Wars: Rebels will be featured in a special premiere screening at this weekend’s National Fan Expo in Toronto, and Nerd Bastards will be there to let you know if it gets a thumbs up, or a thumbs down.
Star Wars: Rebels will begin airing on Disney XD later this fall, sometime in October.
