We’re only a couple of weeks away from the September 23rd return of Marvel‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While many fans felt the series wallowed a bit in those middle episodes, the series last couple of episodes and finale ended on a high note last season. All indications so far point toward that action packed fun continuing in season two. One factor that may help the series continue to bring fans quality television is the upcoming guest stars already announced for season two. The first episode of season two is called Shadows and will feature Hayley Atwell‘s Agent Peggy Carter, star of the upcoming Marvel series Agent Carter. While many thought we might see the aged Agent Carter as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the real money was on a flashback scene.

Now that we’ve got a production still from the episode, we can safely say that a flashback is certainly in the episode and Agent Carter isn’t the only guest star we’ll see. That’s right, we’ve got the Howling Commandos back in action. Take a look at the still below

Ya gotta love Dum Dum Dugan and that bowler hat. Neal McDonough plays the role and was fantastic in Captain America: The First Avenger and the Marvel One Shot Agent Carter short that was later included in the Iron Man 3 dvd/bluray. There’s also Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi) to the left of Agent Carter.

The episode Shadows is described as:

Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources – but that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?

What will Agent.. wait I mean Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) discover that leads them to Agent Carter’s past. It must be something Hydra related. Could the whole thing tie into some of the other Marvel movies in the pipeline?

From the look of Carter and the Howling Commandos this flashback takes place at or near the end of World War II. Perhaps something to do with German scientists or perhaps some secret super science Nazi military hardware? Something that will cause Director Coulson problems in the future.

What’s your theory?
