Rumor has it that there would be a black or silver style Stormtrooper armor in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars VII. We saw the new helmets a couple of weeks ago and now there is concept art (Above) and a picture of the silver/chrome Stormtrooper armor after the jump.
Indie Revolver has been nailing it with first looks on some of Star Wars VII costume designs and variations. Now they’ve gotten a hold of this chrome/silver Stormtrooper and while they also speculate on how these chrome Troopers fit into the movie, I think they might be right.
The first thing to note is that the hood or robe is not part of the Stormtrooper costume, it’s more likely what all the other characters are wearing while moving between sets, wardrobe/make-up, and other parts of the set. It’s all an effort to cut down on pictures like the one above from spoiling too much of the new surprises that Abrams has in store for us. Also note the high metal collar, perhaps to protect the neck area between the helmet and body armor.
Here’s how Indie Revolver thinks this chrome trooper fits in:
A couple sources have expressed that the chrome troopers are a private security force for Adam Driver’s character – silver mercenary rent-a-cops rather than true Imperial Forces for Adam Driver’s character. While we’ve not heard this from anyone directly, the most abundant rumor about Driver is that he’s a wealthy aristocrat with an interest in Sith artifacts.
Now a lot of people believe this is Adam Driver on set in an X-Wing Pilot uniform:
Not really sure how that fits in with Sith artifact obsessed collector, but perhaps he also collects Jedi artifacts and equipment? If he has highly trained shock trooper mercenaries in high-tech Stormtrooper armor he’s got some cash to spread around and it would make sense for him to have various ship types and uniforms as part of his collection and daily wardrobe.
Me? I’m holding out for Discoball Stormtrooper:
