Marvel Studios’ The Avengers: Age of Ultron won’t even hit theaters until next May and already rumors and speculation have begun to swirl around the third installment in the Avengers series of films. While everyone seems excited to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take on James Spader’s Ultron, the teases of Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet that have been sprinkled throughout Marvel’s films since the first Avengers movie have had fans wondering when we’ll see the Mad Titan wreak his own unique brand of havoc across the galaxy.
According to The Daily Marvelite, when we do finally see Thanos, his presence might be enough to split the third Avengers in two.
The rumor is that The Avengers 3 will be the first chapter in a two-part story, a la The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2 and the Twilight: Breaking Dawn films. The buzz is that Josh Brolin’s Thanos won’t make his full presence known in an Avengers film until the fourth installment in the franchise, so the idea of splitting The Avengers 3’s tale into two movies makes sense in terms of story.
Vin Diesel, who plays Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, recently let slip that Marvel will be doing a “merging of brands,” which could allude to the Guardians meeting up with the Avengers, as well as Marvel’s other properties in development (Ant-Man? Doctor Strange?), somewhere down the line, possibly in The Avengers 3.
That “merging” could be leading up to a confrontation between Thanos and all of the heroes under Marvel Studios’ umbrella. This might be the closest thing we could get to seeing the mega-comic book storyline The Infinity Gauntlet become fully realized on the big screen and, frankly, that would be all right with me.
Pretty please, Marvel? Pretty, pretty please with Infinity gems on top?
