With The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 hitting theaters in a little under two months, the film’s producers are working to ramp up the excitement for the beginning of the end of Katniss Everdeen’s journey. In anticipation of the movie, samples of music featured in Mockingjay have been slowly eked out to the public. The latest song to hit the Internet is Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat,” a hauntingly beautiful piece the musician co-wrote with Adele.
The piece itself is a mixture of haunting instrumentals and fast-paced beats, which echoes the internal and external struggles of Katniss in her war against the Capitol. Lyrics such as “I’m a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm / And the scars that mark my body, they’re silver and gold” could be describing Jennifer Lawrence’s character, who has had to grow up quickly during the course of The Hunger Games trilogy. The “scars” referenced could very well be alluding to what she’s had to give up in the course of the series, but also act as badges of honor in the service of a cause greater than herself.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Donald Sutherland, and Elizabeth Banks, arrives in theaters November 21. In the meantime, be sure to check out Arcade Fire and Coldplay’s contributions to the film’s soundtrack, which have already made rounds on the web.
