You probably thought it was all over for more Zombieland, after the horrifically failed attempt to bring the franchise to the small screen blew up messier than a shotgun blast to a ripened zombie skull. Don’t give Zombieland 2 that double tap to the head just yet though. Sony has breathed new life into the sequel’s rotting carcass by bringing Godzilla and Expendables script writer Dave Callaham on board to draft a Zombieland 2 script with the help of director Ruben Fleischer. What does this all mean?
Well, it really just means that Sony would like to get the franchise back on track. The whole move to television with an entirely new cast was one of those types of decisions made after the twelve rounds of Tequila shots while on vacation in Vegas. You feel great, everything is possible, and you have no idea what a jackass you’re about to make of yourself. Someone at Sony must feel like it’s time to correct that wrong.
Why the original Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick aren’t involved might just be that some Sony bridges got burned in the production of that television flop. Reese blamed the whole thing on die-hard fans, instead of .
I’ll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.
I kinda doubt it this long after the first movie. More likely the sequel will be set in the same world, but with different characters. We all saw how recasting the original roles worked out for the television show. I can see a cameo for the original group in the sequel, or perhaps we’ll just see the aftermath left in their wake.
What do you think? Is there enough story left for another movie?
