The one-hour ‘Star Wars Rebels: Spark Of Rebellion,’ which aired last week on the Disney Channel, picked up 6.5 million viewers. Already considered a success, the series has been renewed for a second season. It should begin its official series run on Disney XD on October 13th. Then the money printing conglomerate has something special in mind a week later. Hoping to build on their good fortune, Disney has scheduled a re-airing of the episode for Sunday, October 26th on ABC. The rerun will feature a classic character from the two trilogies. A little head-scratching, a couple of “hmmms,” and you’ll find that it’s easy to guess who I’m talking about. And it’s awesome.

James Earl Jones, baby! Darth Vader himself will make an appearance on the Prime Time network airing of SWR! It’s just a re-air, sure, but also an incredible move on Disney’s part because adding Vader works positively toward tying all the movie storylines together. EP Dave Filoni had this to say:

“We wanted to do something special for the ABC broadcast. We’ve added a scene which gives audiences insight into the Inquisitor and includes a cameo by Darth Vader voiced by the distinguished actor James Earl Jones.”

Could be a ratings-grabbing effort, could be cross-promotion, could be anything. Thing is that, this isn’t news. We knew about this happening days ago, but the new announcement of James Earl Jones making an appearance is what we’re excited about here. But as far as I’m concerned, who the hell else were they going to use??

I hope we don’t see too many well-known characters in the series because that would be stupid, making it tough to suspend disbelief. The galaxy is freakin’ huge and full of planets. Seeing a bevy of old faces during this thing’s run would be too many coincidences.

Look at how far too seriously I’m taking this cartoon…

The series is set in the era between Episodes 3 & 4 of the Star Wars Universe. It’s the fateful beginning of the Galactic Empire’s surge to power. The crew of the starship Ghost struggle to build what we’ll later come to know as The Rebellion, and we’ll be following them on their weekly adventures.
