It Does Exist! First Shot from the Set of ‘Tremors 5’

Tremors_onesheet

Remember Tremors? Okay, maybe you don’t. It came out nearly 25 years ago and it was hardly a box office success. It did enjoy cult status, but even that seems to have faded over the years and decades, leaving the pre-CG creature charm of the Ron Underwood film and the charm of a youthful Kevin Bacon left somewhat forgotten in the annals of movie-going. But you know who hasn’t forgotten? Universal. Universal Pictures produced several direct-to-video sequels and a Sci-Fi original series based on the movie, and because everything old is new, sequelized or rebooted again, Tremors is coming back, and coming to a Blu-ray player or video-on-demand site near you. And to prove it’s a thing, we have the first photo from the set.

The above picture is from the set of Tremors 5, the fifth movie in the franchise that started with the cult favorite original starring Kevin Bacon and Fred  Ward in 1990. Posted to the Tremors Facebook page, the shot features Michael Gross, who’s appeared in more Tremors projects than any other member of the original film’s cast, along with new sidekick Jamie Kennedy. The film is scheduled for release in 2016 and is currently being filmed in South Africa, but no details other than that are known at this time.

If you’re unfamiliar with at least the original film, it follows the citizens of small town in Nevada that discovers they’re sitting on the feeding ground of a group of giant worms with a mouthful of snake-like tongues that come out of the dirt, grab they’re prey (read: people) and gobble them up. The townspeople call the creatures Graboids, and they never seen to be as endangered as we’re lead to believe because the film has already spawned two sequels and a prequel as well as a TV series that ran for just one season. It’s still worth checking out though, at least the original Kevin Bacon-starring movie is worth checking out. Bacon and Ward have great chemistry and Underwood really knows how to balance gross out monster stuff with light, character moments. I’m sure you can find it on DVD or a streaming site somewhere with a minimum of fuss.

Once again, Tremors 5 will be released in 2016.
