Now, this is what it looks like to have some concrete casting information. Oliver Queen will once again be dealing with a rogue’s gallery regular, as longtime adversary Brick gets introduced to live action villainy. For those of us who have no idea who this guy is, Danny Brickwell was a gangster who saw prime opportunity in Star City’s temporary void of underworld bosses. While most of the shady characters around town saw chaos, Danny jumped at the chance to showcase his own brand of order, mostly through drug sale. This storyline took shape after the comic storyline ‘Green Arrow: City Walls’ and established Brick as a real problem for Arrow’s ample quiver of solutions. And bringing him to the small screen is an actor who is used to playing hard-to-kill characters.
Fondly remembered as Bullet Tooth Tony from the movie ‘Snatch’ and mockingly memorialized as the Juggernaught (bitch) in the worst X-Men movie to date, Mr. Vinnie Jones is set to take on the role of Brickwell. The character was noted earlier in the series for being on Arrow’s hitlist, but now we get to see him in the flesh. Without any rubber muscles or bullets for teeth to make him stand out, Jones will have to make do with just pure meanness and evil to get him through. This is because, sadly, the depiction of the character won’t have any superpowers, according to Variety:
“In DC Comics canon, Brick is a Green Arrow villain with thick, invulnerable skin. In Arrow, Danny Brickwell is a ruthless gang leader who brings Star City’s government to its knees. He’s known as Brick on the streets because he’s been shot dozens of times but never put down. Jones will appear in episodes 10, 11 and 12 of ‘Arrow’s’ current third season”
Wonderful casting, bad execution. Okay, seems they hint at his super-strong Luke Cage skin, but that’s it. I’d love to see an overpowered metahuman show up in this series. I doubt they’ll even go so far as to reproduce Brick physically. Probably go all Wilson Fisk on us or something. I know television has to stick to much smaller budgets than film, but I’ve seen some pretty elaborate things in the last few weeks via ‘The Flash’ and ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ and I think it could work. Think about it, Warner Bros. Can we go over-the-top with this character depiction?? I’d love to see him with the rusty color and invulnerability. No explanation, just have him there rockin’ it like everything’s cool and normal. What do you guy’s think? Am I asking for too much?
Then again, hey…they might do it that way anyway. And I’ll shut up about it.
With stars Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Colton Haynes, Willa Holland, Paul Blackthorne, and John Barrowman, ‘Arrow’ takes aim Wednesdays at 8 P.M. ET via The CW.
