Right off the bat I’m gonna have to apologize to all our readers that don’t live in the UK because, while you can check out the new 2001: A Space Odyssey trailer below, you won’t be able to check it out on the big screen. You’ll have to pop in your own copy or go out and pick up the DVD or Bluray. If you don’t own a copy, you should. This movie stands up to the test of time very well. The effects and musical score are incredible. This movie blew my young mind back in the day when my college movie house screened it.

Ignition Creative London put together this new trailer almost 40 years after the film’s release. The BFI (British Film Institute) is sponsoring viewings at theaters in the UK through December of some of Sci-Fi’s greatest films. The Sci-Fi: Days of Fears and Wonder will feature this new trailer along with a screening of Stanley Kubrick‘s 2001: A Space Odyssey masterpiece.

Jan Harlan, 2001: A Space Odyssey executive producer described the new trailer saying:

…the best trailer for this film I have ever seen! To use Hal’s voice is brilliant.

Take a look for yourself:

Seriously, this is one film that every Sci-Fi loving person should see at least one time on the big screen, or at least the biggest screen you can get your hands on. Stick every director that has ever made a sci-fi movie since 2001: A Space Odyessy and ask them if they were influenced by Kubrick’s 2001 and then shoot any that say they weren’t in the head. It might help us avoid some Sci-Fi stinkers.
