The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Season 21

Marvel Studios has a lot of irons in the coals these days with five television shows in various stages of production and a ton of movies scheduled to come out from now until 2020. We’ve also seen some great casting news with Chadwick Boseman cast as Marvel’s Black Panther, but according to LL Cool J, he’s also up for a Marvel movie role.

He tweeted this a couple of days ago:

Now let’s take a look at this and read between the lines. After this tweet hit, fans peppered him with questions on Twitter about the role and any details that Mr. Cool J could supply. He didn’t respond to any of those questions. That could mean a few things.

He could be in talks for a Marvel role and, while he couldn’t contain himself about tweeting the possibilities, he knows Marvel wouldn’t like him outing the role he’s in talks for just yet.

It could also mean that he is hoping that his little tweet might generate enough fan buzz to help nudge Marvel into offering him a role. Vin Diesel kinda did that same thing back before he had the Groot role in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy and then again about a movie scheduled for 2017. Could LL Cool J be hoping for the same results? Marvel seems to roll with the punches when things out of their control happen, like the recent trailer leak.

It could also be a combination of both. Besides wondering if the role is real and happening, what everyone really wants to know is: What role might LL Cool J play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

There are sure to be some choice roles in the upcoming Black Panther movie that he could play. T’Challa’s (Black Panther’s real name) father King T’Chaka, would be one guess. T’Chaka was murdered by the adventurer Ulysses Klaw. That’s the character that everyone is betting that Andy Serkis is playing in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Kevin Feige has said that Wakanda, the homeland of Black Panther will make an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I kinda doubt that we’ll see Andy Serkis kill King T’Chaka. Or at least if we do, it won’t be LL Cool J, it seems farfetched to think he has already shot scenes for Avengers: Age of Ultron and we haven’t heard anything about it yet.

There are a number of other Black Panther roles LL Cool J might be right for. N’Gassi, one of Black Panther’s advisers. Could LL Cool J be playing a villain? Man-Ape seems a bit of a stretch, but there’s also the role of T’Challa’s older, adopted brother the White Wolf.

Man-Ape_h2Man-Ape – Ruler of the Jabari Tribe a recognized micronation within Wakanda’s borders. M’Baku was Wakanda’s greatest warrior second only to the Black Panther. He plotted to usurp the throne with the help of the outlawed White Gorilla cult who were ancient rivals of the Black Panther cult, which basically made them heretics since Panther worship is the state religion. Founding member of the “Pan-African Congress on the Treatment of Superhumans”.

HunterWhite Wolf – T’Challa’s adopted elder brother and the former leader of the Hatut Zeraze, the espionage elite police of Wakanda. Exiled by T’Challa, due to using torture and assassinations in his zeal to root out potential threats to national security.

blackpanther9cN’Gassi – Adviser to T’Challa, acting regent when he goes away on missions.

If the role isn’t in Black Panther, then there are still other roles like Goliath, Brother Voodoo, and Rage that could be in one of the other Marvel movies.I’m limiting the list to those characters that might show up in the movie since he specifically said in the tweet that it was a movie role.

What do you think, which Marvel character would you like to see LL Cool J take on?
