The Nerd Bastards site and Facebook page blew up last week when Paul Reubens announced that another Pee Wee Herman movie was in the works. Fans have been waiting a long time and the talk of another movie was beginning to take on a Ghostbuster 3 vibe, meaning that we’d hear a lot of sporadic talk for the last three years, but nothing would ever happen. Reubens made an appearance on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to talk more about the movie and drop a couple more important details.

Reubens and Fallon chat in the video below and one jaw dropping item for me was learning that Pee Wee’s Big Adventure was Tim Burton’s first feature film. How did I not know that!

Reubens made a few important Pee Wee Herman movie revelations during his appearance:

There is going to be one, and I was hoping I could make this huge announcement tonight, but it’s a week away, I think, from being announced.

Judd Apatow is producing it still, and we’ve hired a director.

We’re going to start in February.

That’s all Reubens had that he felt he could talk about the upcoming movie, but we can speculate that if the production is starting in February that the script is as solid as it’s going to be at this point and that they have a director in mind, but nothing signed yet. Those talks must be close to completed though to start shooting in February.

Fallon also had Reubens voice over the big Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer:

That Dating Game story is hysterical. Here’s a video of one of his appearances:
