Marvel celebrated 75 years of comic book mayhem last night with an hour-long special that delved into Marvel’s creative history and characters. Peppered in all that were a number of clips from Marvel movies and the upcoming Agent Carter series. Now you can see them all at once in the video below.
Thanks to Bleedingcool we’ve got all the clips mashed together:
I enjoyed the special and was amused as everyone at Marvel made a concerted effort to make sure everyone watching knew how much a risk Guardians of the Galaxy was and how wonderfully it turned out. Hopefully the same thing will happen with Ant-Man.If that movie tanks in any way then Edgar Wright fans will be torching the Internet.
They gave a lot of credit to the creative talents of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko. Now that the Kirby estate has reached a settlement, Marvel looks ready to move past some of their most troubled past and celebrate what those creators achieved together.
We also got to see some new footage from Ant-Man, and Agent Carter along with some Avengers: Age of Ultron footage that I’m pretty sure was in the trailer. Speaking of Ant-Man, Marvel just released a revised plot synopsis with a couple of interesting tweaks:
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Now the synopsis talks about a founding member of the Avengers. They must be talking about Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) since Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) isn’t Ant-Man until this movie plays out. Combine that with a rumored cameo by Agent Carter in Ant-Man and perhaps Nick Fury isn’t the person who started the Avengers Initiative. Perhaps Agent Carter had her own Avengers back in the day.
The other change is that now Scott Lang is a “Master Thief.” I’m not sure I like this change as much. In the comics Lang is actually kinda bumbling as a thief and only turns to crime after being forced by gangsters. I’m willing to roll with it though, Marvel has made other changes that worked out fine in the end.
The other big preview involved Agent Carter. In the clip below we see the basic premise of the show. Howard Stark has created some dangerous weapons and technologies while working for the war effort. Some have mysteriously disappeared after the war and Agent Carter needs to get them back in safer hands.
We also get our first look at Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy). The man who is believed to make a such huge impression on young Tony Stark that he named his creative Artificial Intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S. Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) tells Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) all about the dangers of Molecular Nitromene. That will be the mysteriously dangerous material that Agent Carter is tasked to retrieve.
What did you think about last night’s special?
