If you’ve ever played a Telltale game, you know that this company has quite a knack for being able to take a complex story world and create an enjoyable video game experience. In their time, they’ve made amazing games out of franchises such as Back to the Future, The Walking Dead and Fables. Now, they have the chance to bring us yet another mind-blowing interactive experience with A Game of Thrones. And, finally, we’re getting some details as to what we might expect when the game finally releases. Read on for all the info.
The first reveal – Don’t expect much in the way of George R.R. Martin’s unblemished A Song of Fire and Ice series. This game will follow in the footsteps of the television series and thus reflect the changes that the GoT writers have implemented into the story.
The second reveal – The main characters will be members of House Forrester (a House mentioned briefly in the books). According to the official Telltale press release:
House Forrester is a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North – the Starks. The Forresters are seated at Ironrath, an imposing stronghold surrounded by towering ironwood trees. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood. The Forrester house words are ‘Iron from Ice’, which echoes their belief that – like the ironwood itself – the adverse conditions and unforgiving landscape of the North only makes them stronger.
Reveal the Third – Players will be jumping back and forth between five different characters during the course of the game. Some shall be of House Forrester while others will be affiliated with them in some manner.
Reveal number four – The game will take place in both Westeros and Essos. So don’t expect to be stuck in the frozen north the entire time. Presumably, the character-jumping aspect of the game will facilitate this ocean-spanning aspect. What’s more, Telltale is upping their game by having the decisions that you make with one character affect the way the other characters’ stories play out. It’s a bit more complex than what we’ve seen from them before, but proof that they’re getting better and better at what they do with each passing game.
The Final Reveal – The game is going to take place near the end of Game of Thrones season 3 and will end sometime before the beginning of the events in the fifth season. So there won’t be any spoilers, just in case you were worried.
Unfortunately, there’s no reveal on the exact release date of the game. It has been said that it will show up in Quarter 4 of this year, so that means it has to come out in the next 6-7 weeks. If we hear anything more specific, we’ll let you know. It’s a pretty safe bet they’ll do the same thing they’ve always done and release it in multiple chapters over the course of several months though. And they’re being very cross-platform about the release, so you’ll be able to play it whether you’re sporting an Xbox One, an Xbox 360, a PS 3 or a PS 4, a PC, a Mac and even iOS.
What say thee, Nerd Readers? Excited for the next Telltale game? Are you wishing that they’d used some characters we already knew, or does the presence of a lesser House lend well to the format?
