Every new Jurassic Park movie has featured a new dinosaur – or two, or three – to plague the brave humans crazy enough to go to an island filled with creatures whose Latin name is derived from the term “terrible lizards.” Speaking of terrible, it seems that some terrible things are in store for the characters in the upcoming fourth Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World. The new film directed by Colin Trevorrow will feature some never-before-seen animals, and while we have yet to see any finished footage from the film (more on that later), we have now, apparently, gotten a look at one of those new dinosaurs featured in it. “Look” is a relative term in this case, but despite the, ahem, scale, it gives you a pretty good idea of what Trevorrow et al are cooking up.

So you’ve heard of a T-Rex, right? Well now behold the D-Rex! Excuse me, I mean the LEGO D-Rex!!!

As revealed by the website groovebricks.com, the dinosaur, which is supposedly called a “D-Rex,” plays into a previous /Film interview with Trevorrow in which the director revealed that there was going to be entirely new dinos. These animals are creations of the Jurassic Park geneticists, who are filling a corporate demand to create flashy new creatures to draw visitors, among them a T-Rex-like animal with red eyes and light skin. A little on the nose given the image above.

Here’s the pertinent portion of that Trevorrow interview on /Film:

Yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.

I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence.

In rumor news, /Film is reporting that a trailer for the new Jurassic Park film may be arriving in the next couple of weeks with the studio wanting to time it with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most hotly anticipated trailers, for one of next summer’s most anticipated blockbuster sequels.

Jurassic World will be in theaters everywhere this coming June.
