With the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer looming on the horizon, we’re all anticipating what we’re going to see with the first look. But just because the beginning of the new trilogy is getting closer and closer doesn’t mean that the rest of the Star Wars franchise isn’t plowing forward. The latest rumor regarding non-trilogy movie plans is something that might interest you or might just leave you rolling your eyes. For, if the mystic people known as “sources” are correct, 2016 is going to bring us a Star Wars heist flick.

It’s already known that the 2016 release will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) from a script written by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli), but so far there have been no details. But what /film is saying is that the plot will revolve around one of the most famous, unexplored events in Star Wars mythical history – the theft of the Death Star plans.

You might first assume that this means we’ll see more of the old Rebel Alliance during a period right before A New Hope. And while the era is certainly correct, the rumor also states that those out to steal the plans will be a group of bounty hunters. Which bounty hunters will show up is, naturally, completely unknown at this time, but could we be seeing the appearance of Boba Fett in his own movie as has been rumored in the past? Will any of the famous bounty hunter faces that we saw strutting along on the catwalk during The Empire Strikes Back show up?

But the rumor doesn’t stop there! According to the “sources”, the Millennium Falcon will play some sort of role in the heist flick. Yet the rumor also states that there will be no Han Solo present. Since anyone familiar with the timeline knows that Solo had already won the Falcon from Lando Calrissian, why would the ship show up? Could Lando have borrowed it from Han? Is Lando even going to be in the movie? That would be a nice twist, though I’m guessing Billy Dee Williams might be a little too old to reprise the role.

One more rumor to go along with all this – the main character of Star Wars: Bobas Eleven (title confirmed only in my head) is supposed to be introduced during The Force Awakens. Naturally, it would be a much older version of said character, but it would provide a bit of continuity to the ever-expanding universe and give Disney a chance to generate a little hype and drop some hints about what they’re doing (which we will no doubt know all about by then anyways…).

So what say the Nerd Readers? Bounty Hunter heist good? Should they use Lando? Does Disney really need to put the fkn Millennium Falcon in EVERY damned movie just because people will recognize it?
