Word is out that Warner Bros. announced the star-studded cast of its upcoming DC super-villain tent-pole movie Suicide Squad. Director David Ayer will have his hands full with the talented cast that includes Oscar winner Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress.
Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman said:
The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.
The rumored appearance of Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor from Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was not included in this announcement, although the rumor that he is in talks to appear continue to have strong backing from sources.
Another key character yet to be cast is Amanda Waller. She is the “Nick Fury” equivalent to the Suicide Squad and Warner Bros. expects to have the role cast before the production begins shooting. The short list includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey.
Rumor has it that Oprah Winfrey is Warner Bros. first choice and I have to say that would be just fine with me. I prefer the “stout” Amanda Waller and Winfrey certainly has the acting chops to pull it off. Considering the level of casting just announced, that might tip the odds in favor of getting Winfrey to seriously consider the role.
