Promo art for Avengers: Age of Ultron has debuted online featuring a good clear look at The Vision. The promo art surfaced after initially appearing at an International Disney event, and an instagram user (via CBM) managed to snap up a picture of the art work. One thing that can be said about The Age of Ultron is that there are plenty of new characters being introduced in the second installment of the franchise. We now have Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the focus of today – The Vision (played by Paul Bettany). So who exactly is The Vision? What are his abilities? Has he been altered in anyway during the transition from comic book to the movie?
The Vision started out as a villian; a robot much in the same way as Ultron, created by Ultron to wreak havoc and destroy the Avengers. He consequently has a change of heart, and decides to join the team. He has stuck by the Avengers perhaps moreso than Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, although he has never been deemed popular enough to warrant on ongoing comic book series of his own (…it would be quite difficult to base an entire comic book series on an emotionless android whilst retaining a compellingness to the story-arc, no?). The Vision was typically clad in a classic red, yellow and green costume.
He comes equipped with myriad powers including his ability to change density at his own incline (which is pretty damn cool). Ranging from intangible (being able to stick his hand through someone’s body, threatening to make it become hard) to hard as steel (being able to punch villains through walls etc…). He also has a solar gem on his forehead (which can be seen above) which is to help maintain the power throughout his mechanised body. This can also be used for Cyclops-esque solar blasts. He can also hack into almost any computer system as his brain works just like a computer. The Vision is probably the smartest of all the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and he’s the kind of guy you want on your side when facing off against someone like Ultron).
As for changes from the comic books, due to Paul Bettany playing the part of The Vision, it looks like he is going to be slightly different in Age of Ultron both: personality wise, and look wise, akin to a more anthropomorphized version of Tony Stark’s automated system Jarvis (who has also been with the Avengers since the beginning), and having more of an attitude. As for his origin, whether he is created by Ultron or not remains to be seen. He could actually originate from the personality of Jarvis?! It’s all a guessing game for now.
Regardless of how many changes will be made to the character, The Vision will make for a nice addition to the franchise. Do you have theories of your own regarding his origin in Age of Ultron? Do you like the look of the character from the Promo Art work? …maybe you want to see him in his 70s form? (we dont!) As always, let your voice be heard.
