If you are anything like me, you have been waiting on any little piece of information that may indicate that the lovely J.K. Rowling may be returning to the world of The Boy Who Lived ever since reading the final pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows back in 2007. Yes, we had the movie franchise to keep us going for a bit but Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 was released over two and a half years ago and many muggles besides just myself have been jonesing for a wizard fix. Thankfully, it appears that many of us will have plenty to celebrate as we get closer to Christmas. Pottermore, the immersive Harry Potter site, has announced that J.K. Rowling will be releasing 12 new stories set in the world of everyone’s favorite bespectacled wizard.
Now, the details surrounding Pottermore’s 12 Days of Christmas were initially scare at the time of the announcement:
However, since the announcement, a little more has been learned through the official email received by members of the site:
“From Florean Fortescue’s ghost plot to J.K. Rowling’s thoughts on the sneaky Slytherin Draco Malfoy, there’s a wealth of writing to discover.”
Fans of Rowling’s are no doubt aware that a couple of short stories have previously been released through Pottermore that were wonderful but did little to scratch that itch that Potter fans have for a new tale. While one of the stories did serve as a bit of a epilogue and told of Harry and his friends’ visit to the Quidditch World Cup (told as an article written by the pesky Rita Skeeter), another more recent short story released through Pottermore focused solely on the one character that people may have hated more than Voldermort: Dolores Umbridge. These were wonderful stories that really show that Rowling can go anywhere in the world of wizards, even without revealing too much regarding the fate of Potter and the rest of Dumbledore’s Army. In fact, a story that focuses on Draco Malfoy may be a refreshing change of pace. Let’s be honest, though – what we are all really hoping for is more adventures from the trio that helped us fall in love with Rowling’s words in the first place.
For those that want to forego all that pesky reading (I can’t imagine why you would but, hey, if you fall in this group, more power to you), the next entry in the magical franchise will be the Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be hitting theaters on November 18, 2016. The movie is rumored to take place 7 decades before Harry walked through the doors of Hogwarts and will focus on Newt Scamander and his search to find and categorize various magical beasts.
So, how can you take part in all of the fun?
