Star Wars is one of the most recognizable aspects of popular culture, and surprisingly still relevant after nearly four decades and more than a couple of lumps along the way (like the Prequel Trilogy, for example). So it was really no surprise when the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens got many fans to wake up early on Black Friday and go to nearest participating theater to see it, while many more racked up millions of You Tube hits in near record speed. Never one to not notice the obvious, Saturday Night Live sent up the SW:TFA trailer this past weekend with the parts you didn’t see, a first look at the original trilogy characters, now older, struggle to understand a universe for the youth.
The “new trailer” features episode host James Franco as Luke Skywalker, while cast members Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan and Kenan Thompson played Han Solo, Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian respectively. Let’s roll the clip:

Still, Killam is really good as old Han Solo doing a damn good Harrison Ford impression, and Franco’s line reading of “I have a thyroid condition, like my father before me,” is pretty spot on. Critical appraisal of Saturday’s episode of SNL says that this was the funniest thing on there, which shouldn’t be that surprising. Whenever SNL dishes up Star Wars spoofs, they usually hit out of the park. To wit:
The real Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters everywhere on December 18,2015
