Word hit the Internet a couple of months ago that DC was bringing a live action television show to TNT featuring the Teen Titans with the title Titans. Are you wondering why they lost the “Teen” in the title and when production on the series might start? Now we’ve got some details that might clear everything up.

First up is when will production start? When asked that question on Twitter last night, Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, gave this update:

Now that you’ve seen the tweets above you might understand why they are changing the title and dropping the “Teen.” Dick Grayson was 19 when he created the Nightwing identity, and although some of the other Titan members were younger, they really aren’t teens anymore at this point. Translating that to the small screen with a title change seems appropriate.

The pilot is being written by Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes. You know Goldman’s writing from Fringe, I am Legend, and A Beautiful Mind. He’s no stranger to the Batman Universe, he’s written in it before. Don’t cringe too much when you find out he wrote Batman & Robin and the screenplay for Batman Forever. Haimes only has one writing credit, The Last Word, but has worked as crew and produced some very recognizable movies.

The series is centered on Grayson:

Who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.

With Starfire and Raven confirmed as members of Titans, I suspect we’ll get the Modern Titans team. No mention of Beast Boy or Cyborg, both solid members of the modern Titans. I imagine that if Cyborg is included in the cast that the television role will be recast as DC doesn’t seem to want to mix their television shows and Cinematic Universe. At least this time around it’s the movie actor getting the recasting treatment.

With this show appearing on TNT, will there be the possibility of crossovers like the CW is doing with Arrow and The Flash? It would make sense to fans, but sometimes networks can seem to get on the same page. We can only hope cooler heads prevail if it comes up. Personally I don’t think they will. Arrow and the Flash are much older than Dick Grayson so I would imagine that if they did have a cross over, some makeup effects would be needed to age Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin.

Although Deathstroke is one of my favorite Teen Titan villains, I imagine the show’s producers and writers might steer clear of him for a season or two. mainly because he was such a huge part of Arrow’s first two seasons. We might see some of his children though in Ravenger and Jericho that could set up a future story line.

What other Titan characters or story lines would you like to see?

Wonder Girl, Speedy, (Arsenal), Jericho, and Terra come to mind for me.

As for storyline, with the inclusion of Raven and Starfire, I imagine we’ll see these story lines:
