Here’s something to dig your teeth into! Paul Feig‘s highly anticipated reboot/sequel/same-universe/re-imagining all-female Ghostbusters may just have just have found one of his four paranormal crime-busters. Since the films announcement, hardcore fans of the classic 80s comedy have been on tenterhooks, “gossiping” and speculating about which actresses might be suiting up and dawning the proton packs. There are no stars officially attached to the project yet, but, finally we have some information regarding a conversation Feig had with Rebel Wilson. By the looks of things, this could have the potential to be a combination of Bridesmaids meets Ghostbusters.

Rebel Wilson – who had a supporting role in Feig’s Bridesmaids – has revealed the exciting news that she’s already met with Feig to discuss a role in the upcoming movie (…and toning down the sarcasm as this is all sounding rather upsetting!). However, she asserted that no decisions have been made as of yet, and it was merely just chitter-chatter.

Wilson let it rip on the The Today Show when she spoke with Matt Lauer:

“Look, I have had a meeting, but who knows? They have to look at the script when it’s finished.” She added, “I would even do that without the money truck. I’d do that for free. I probably shouldn’t say that live on TV.”

So it sounds like Sony, Feig and screenwriter Katie Dippold are basically seeing how many of the Bridesmaids cast they can get to jump aboard the franchise (all jokes aside, it sounds like they are looking to assemble a cast before Dippold puts pen-to-paper). Nothing is known about the script, but apparently Wilson will be suited to the style of humor in Feig’s Ghostbusters as she fits quite well into his brand of comedy.

There has been comparisons made between this and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in the sense that this is the female equivalent to comedy actresses right now what Star Wars VII was to other actors and actresses a year ago (this is not a joke). Somehow, I doubt it is anywhere in the same league as that kind of casting, as Star Wars VII is going to be a guaranteed Box Office smash due to the unprecedented built-in fanbase. Now I’m not saying that Ghostbusters hasn’t garnered a massive fanbase throughout the thirty-years since it was released, I just think that this reboot or sequel or whatever the hell it is, is going to be a huge gamble (fans have waited for years for a third installment, with Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis almost making it happen, before the untimely death of Ramis). Some fans were even happy enough when the cast all got back together – including Sigourney Weaver and the retired Rick Moranis – for GhostBusters: The Video Game which was released in 2009.

Dan and Ramis

Melissa McCarthy is the odds-on favorite to star, as she has starred in all of Feig’s movies lately, but she too, has said she hasn’t been cast yet. Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone were linked to Aykroyd and Ramis’s ‘passing-of-the-torch‘ script with Aykroyd mentioning Cardellini in a lot of interviews. So, as Bill Murray has read that particular script, it’s quite fitting that he has recommended Stone and Cardellini along with Kristen Wiig star in the new movie. Others who are interested in a part are Ellen DeGeneres, Lena Dunham, and Bill Hader.

What do you think people? Is this project starting to tickle you fancy? Or is this movie headed for a disaster of biblical proportions, and by that, we mean real wrath of God type stuff…
