The Sony Hack is the gift that just keeps on giving. While I am not a fan of invading anyone’s privacy, some of the bat-shit crazy stuff that is coming out in the Sony Executives emails is otherworldly. I feel like that kid coming back from the dentist, “Is this the real world?” This time around it’s word that Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt, the Russo Brothers, and Paul Feig have a plan for a spin-off Ghostbusters movie starring Tatum & Pratt. That sound you just heard was your brain shifting gears to catch up with that idea.

We all know that Paul Feig is in charge of the all-female reboot/re-imagining or whatever the hell you want to call it for the Ghostbusters franchise. Everyone that has any comedic chops, and many that have no clue when it comes to comedy, want in and it’s not just the ladies.
Ryan Gosling‘s name has recently popped up in a Sony email. Sony wants Gosling for the Sinister Six movie, and Gosling wants in on Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters. In a chain of emails between Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures Pascal asks what projects Gosling wanted. De Luca replied:
It’s Ghostbusters according to Ilene [Feldman, Gosling’s manager].

In another email to Columbia, Pascal says:

There is one make [male] part paul is planning. How insane would that be… He also wants Jennifer [Lawrence] and Emma [Stone].

Pascal went on to ask Feldman to talk to Gosling about Sinister Six and Jobs, adding,

You tell me what he is interested in.

If that wasn’t enough, there were more Sony emails about a spin-off Ghostbusters movie that would be directed by Paul Feig, produced by the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), and starring Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt.Tatum seems to have started the ball rolling with this email to Pascal saying:
Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise. Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!
Hannah Minghella, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, kept the ball rolling when she sent Pascal and other Sony executives an email outlining Tatum’s Ghostbusters plan:

So… in a curious turn of events – the Russos and Channing want to develop Ghostbusters as a vehicle for Channing and Chris Pratt to do together, wrote Minghella.

The Russos, Channing and Reid have been brainstorming ideas and want to create a whole new mythology that would support multiple movies (the way that Nolan reinvented Batman). To be clear – the Russos want to produce (not direct) and while Channing and Chris are looking for a movie to do together they haven’t mentioned this to him yet because they weren’t sure how we’d react.

They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat. I know we’re mid negotiations with Paul [Feig]. I’m not sure whether we’d ever develop two different versions simultaneously. Joe Russo is open to the idea that both movies could be developed in partnership so they compliment one another within the same Ghostbusters universe. Apparently the Russos are very close to Paul and Joe suggested Paul could be attached to direct both. Personally I think it’s possible for the female version to co-exist with this other version so maybe they’re not mutually exclusive.

The replies from Sony were very positive, but Pacal’s reply sums it all up nicely:

What a world we live in. Sony will seriously consider any movie idea, but this shouldn’t surprise us, and it shouldn’t worry us either. While the information contained in these Sony email leaks might have a lot of people up in arms, or dancing in the streets depending on their likes and dislikes, this is all part of the movie making process.

A very early in the stage, of movie making process that often comes up short. These things often don’t pan out. It’s just that we never really hear about them unless years later, when someone mentions it in an interview or book. Now considering Pratt and Tatum’s current star power, along with the Russo Brothers success with Marvel, this one might have the juice to get to the next stage of development.

So are you doing a little dance at this news, or gathering torches and pitchforks?
