When AMC‘s The Walking Dead series spinoff was announced, one of the major questions fans had was: Where would it take place? The flagship series has been set in and around Atlanta, Georgia for the first 4.5 seasons. Fans were ready to see how The Walking Dead Zombie Apocalypse was affecting other parts of the country. Now we know that the as yet untitled spinoff series will start out on the West coast in Los Angeles.TvLine is reporting that the series spinoff will take place in L.A., but is unclear if the actual shooting will take place there or, as in many cases, another city doubling as L.A.
What might have started this rumor was a post on Reddit:
Redditor KiddMicks posted the above letter he claims to have received in his neighborhood. Cobalt is thought to be the shooting name of The Walking Dead series. Ted Kim is said to be part of the production team scouting locations for the spin off, but with his numbers (rightfully) blurred out, we can’t really verify this yet. While some would point out that there is no AMC masthead on the letter, if the production is trying to keep things under wraps they certainly wouldn’t put the AMC Letterhead on it.
A lot of people are speculating that the spinoff will be more of a prequel to the Zombie Apocalypse, taking a closer look at the early days of the outbreak and humanities efforts to stop it from spreading.
The cast so far includes Cliff Curtis (Gang Related), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince‘s Tom Riddle), and Aussie actress Alycia Debnam Carey (McLeod’s Daughters).
Creator Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy, Low Winter Son) will be penning the pilot script.
