Bruce Campbell will be gracing the small screen again and this time he is reprising his iconic role of Ash from The Evil Dead franchise. A role that is, quite frankly, been made for him, and has to be one of the most quoted fictional characters to this day. So, there’s no surprise that Campbell is saying that the TV series Ash Vs. Evil Dead, is the “real deal“. Campbell has been building up the new show, telling fans that “this is what they have been waiting for.”

Campbell has said that the series will be true Evil Dead through and through. So for fans of the originals, it seems we are going to be in for a real treat. Speaking to EW, Bruce Campell had a lot to talk about, firstly, praising the fans of the franchise, saying:

“The fans have been really good to us over the years. This is an opportunity to do something with full street cred. [Fan reaction to last year’s Evil Dead remake] was all, “Yeah yeah, that was nice, fellas, but we still want the real deal.” This is it. Sam’s back. I’m back. [Executive producer Rob Tapert’s] back. Love it or hate it, this will be the real deal.”

…and although the show will be providing plenty of slapstick, just like the original, due to the popularity of modern horror fare (American Horror Story, The Strain, The Walking Dead), it sounds as if the gore is going to be aplenty, with lots of arterial spurting and blood geysering all over the place:

“Well, The Walking Dead has been instrumental in the continual popularization of the horror genre. Horror used to be a much smaller aspect of all the different genres available. Something we’re doing is taking the horror parts very seriously. We’re not making fun of the horror aspects. And it’s going to cause Ash—this crabby middle-aged man who doesn’t want to get dragged back into this—a lot of problems. He’s not the Ash he used to be.”

Campbell is already preparing to get back into physical shape to prepare himself to take on the inevitable miscellany of evil hurdles that get in his way, however, this time round, he has help in the form of two younger companions, who will be joining Ash to take on the abundance of evil foes:

“Since it’s not cast yet, it would be silly to fully describe them. But they’re supposed to be two very good counterparts. One is a male-bonding situation; the other is father-figure deal, since Ash could have a daughter the same age as this character. Hopefully we’ll pull Ash out of his loner-veteran mode and get him back into being a human being again.”

Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi

Campbell has also made sure to point out that original director – and creator – of Evil Dead, Sam Raimi, will be very much involved in the show; directing the first episode, then – dependent on schedules of course (Raimi’s a busy guy…) – he will be making sure that everyone involved will be capturing the feel of the Necronomicon-induced nighmare-esque brilliance of the originals. Campbell, also stated that the TV network behind the show, are happy with the creative team and the direction they are taking the show in, and that they are willing to take a back seat, and let the team do what the do best – scare the s**t out of people, and let the creative blood flow.

Sounds like it’s gonna be good. What do you reckon peeps? Do you think there is going to be enough boomstick?
