While many fans wondered if this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special would be the last appearance of Jenna Coleman‘s companion character Clara Oswald. Amidst the ever bubbling and seemingly on target rumors that persisted the entire last season that Coleman would not be back, it was an easy prediction to get wrong. Now we’ve got confirmation from the lady herself.
I get a whole other series of stories with the Doctor and I couldn’t walk away with the story being unresolved.
There is so much more to do. I think they’ve finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.
The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just kind of dropped this whole bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally change, so I think just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it has suddenly thrown something new up.
Peter Capaldi chimed it saying:
I’m thrilled. Jenna has just been fantastic and such a pleasure to work with.
If the rumors weren’t enough, many fans pointed at this year’s Christmas special title, Last Christmas as just another indicator that Coleman was on the way out.
Personally, I like Clara, and feel that now is not the time for the Doctor to change companions. He needs a strong side kick that can, and WILL stand up to him. Replacing Clara now with another companion that would not have their feet under them, and most likely be in utter awe of the Doctor, wouldn’t provide the strong base for the types of Doctor Who episodes I want to see right now.
What do you think? Where you ready for a new companion?
