ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) has just released a Special Effects Sizzle Reel for Marvel‘s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s a fantastic look at the meshing of technology and actors, of how the two are combined to create the incredible scenes of CA:TWS. While no one should hold their breath for a Marvel movie to end up on the Oscar’s Best Picture Nomination list, we should see some nods to the special effects works from both Anthony & Joe Russo‘s CA:TWS and James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Here’s what ILM had to say about the video:
We are proud to present a sampling of ILM’s visual effects work for Marvel’s blockbuster hit, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.
This reel represents a small sampling of the nearly 900 visual effects shots ILM contributed to the film created by an international crew of 300+.
The bulk of ILM’s work appears in the film’s third act and consists of the helicarrier’s massive underwater hanger, their ensuing battle, and the helicarriers themselves inside and out, sprawling digital Washington D.C. and Rosslyn environments including the Triskelion building complex on Roosevelt Island, highly detailed digital doubles for Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie).
We hope you enjoy this look behind the effects work.
What did you think? I love watching these videos to see what’s real and what’s not. The layering in the backgrounds is incredible, such detail, that only adds to the overall effect.
Considering all the practical effects that J.J. Abrams is reported to be using for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I’d love to see a similar effects reel to see what is real and what is computer generated graphics.
