Well, technically, it’s in the background of Disney CEO Bob Iger‘s Fortune cover, but we all know who the real star is. Iger has overseen the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm so you kind of have to allow him that knowing smirk. Disney’s future is looking much brighter with that added trilogy of talent and huge portfolio of money-making franchises.
Even strict estimates have the latest Star Wars movie, J.J. Abrams‘ Star Wars: The Force Awakens easily passing the billion dollar bar. If the movie is well received by fans, that will only boost earnings expectations for the films that follow.
Throw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase two and three movies and you’ll need a Deathstar to carry all the money Disney will have movie goers shoveling their way.
Now someone in the comments is sure to link Iger with the Evil Empire Emperor, Palpatine, but I have to say, if Papatine had been putting together a movie powerhouse like Disney has become under Iger’s watch, that rebellion would have had a harder time gathering recruits. Everyone would have been too busy arguing on the Inter-Galatic-Internet forums about the destruction of their favorite childhood movies, checking out fantastic new trailers, and speculating about the next big movie’s script and casting.
