Just when you thought you’d seen Samuel L. Jackson play every kind of role, he pops up in Finnish writer and director Jalmari Helander‘s Big Game as none other than the President of the United States. The problem is that Air Force One has been taken down by terrorists and Jackson is lost in the deep woods of Finland while the terrorists hunt him down. Don’t worry though, a young Finnish boy (Onni Tommila) on a hunting rite of passage is there to pull Jackson’s bacon out of the frying pan, but will he just end up in the fire?
This is everything you loved about 80’s and early 90’s action movies. Crazy action with a dash of over the top humor. Of course none of the terrorists can believe that some young kid is going to be a problem for them. He’s only got a bow and arrow for criminy sake. Oh how they are gonna regret that train of thought.
The cast is full of familiar faces, besides Onni Tommila and Samuel L. Jackson there’s: Felicity Huffman, Victor Garber, Ted Levine, Jim Broadbent, and personal favorite (13!!!!!!) Ray Stevenson.
Take a look… oh yeah, did I mention it is in Finnish with subtitles? No? Oh well, it really doesn’t take anything away from it, more likely that it adds an atmosphere of Jackson’s displacement to the story.
What did you think? Looks like a lot of fun to me.
