Channing Tatum broke the hearts of all the X-Men fangirls (and fanboys too) tonight with a single tweet. The world was just settling down from the first 40 or so times he went out into the world of Hollywood telling us how he wanted to play Gambit. Most fans baulked and laughed it off as celebrity self fan casting; not taking serious for a moment that the Magic Mike star would honestly play everyone’s favorite ragin’ Cajun, But, in a stroke of glorious fandom, this happened :
How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?

Yes ladies and gents. You read that right. Fox will be bringing us the solo Gambit movie in all his glory in the fall of 2016. So prepare your cosplays accordingly.
Back in May it was confirmed that Channing had signed on as Remy Lebeau in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine spinoff. And of course then Channing went on to continue to talk and give a little insight stating he would be “something fresh” this time around.
Loosely being written around Chris Claremont and Jim Lee‘s X-Men Issue 266 character, with the Robocop screenwriter Josh Zetumer scribing.
So far no mention or hints on any romantic counterparts in Donna Bella or Rogue, or exactly how they’ll make Tatum’s hair look perfectly spikey and long as Remy’s. So we’ll have to stay tuned.
Gambit has always been a great secondary character, and defiantly a fan favorite. He’s a mutant with ability to make stuff blow up (mostly playing cards). He’s walked the line between being good a bad – he’s often depicted as a thief out for himself. He’s kind of like the Han Solo from the Bayou. So, what’s not to like? However, starring in his own movie, with Tatum as the titular character… fans may be a indifferent about this one.
