I may be in the minority here, but I am looking forward to seeing Terminator: Genisys this summer. We may have been burned twice before with James Cameron-less sequels to The Terminator, but I will say there’s potential here by going the nu-Trek route and rebooting the franchise with time travel. Plus, certain respect must be paid to Alan Taylor, who as a director definitely has a better track record than either Jonathan Mostow or McG (either before or since their Terminator outings). Speaking of Terminator, we’ve been given our first look at the new look for the T-800, in its skeletal form, for Genisys.
Courtesy of the rather disparagingly named “Geek Movie Preview” in USA Today, here’s the first look at the new model T-800:
For the uninitiated, the T-800 is the type of Terminator that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s character is under the Austrian body builder looking skin suit. It’s not bad, nothing to write home about. He looks a little happy in this picture, and we all know that robots don’t have emotions. Of course, the lighting on the metal plate on the chest kind of makes it look like he has Iron Man’s arc reactor, which would be kind of tactically stupid if it was an arc reactor and if Terminators were powered by arc reactors, but I digress.
In case you’ve forgotten, Terminator: Genisys will chronicle how Skynet tries to kill Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) as a little girl, only to leave her parentless when she’s saved by a T-800 (Schwarzenegger) that ends up raising her. When Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) arrives from the future in 1984, he finds a Sarah that’s battle ready as the two of them team-up with the older-looking Terminator fight to thwart Skynet from the past and prevent the future.
Terminator: Genisys is in theaters everywhere on July 1.
