In the latter part of 2014, it was announced that everyone’s favorite jive talking, and certifiably insane “Merc with the Mouth”, aka Deadpool, would be getting is very own live-action movie. Slated for release in 2016 the production is moving forward with the comedic action extravaganza, and casting is now taking shape.
We know Ryan Reynolds will star as the red suited sword-smith who has a penchant for eating chimichangas, but who else will be rounding out the cast?
The Wrap reports that in addition to Reynolds, you’ll see TJ Miller ((Silicon Valley, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Big Hero 6) in Deadpool, and Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones, and The Transporter Legacy reboot) amongst the cast assembly.
No word on who these two will play. From the pages of Deadpool the titular anti-hero has been associated with such groups as:
X-Force, Agency X; formerly Six Pack, One World Church, DP Inc., Weapon X, Heroes for Hire, Secret Defenders, Frightful Four, Team Deadpool, Landau, Luckman & Lake, Department K; former employee of Genesis, Tolliver, Kingpin, Taskmaster, and others.
Mostly, though, Deadpool globe trots doing odd self serving jobs, and gets himself into some shenanigans, often involving a steady rotation of other Marvel characters.
Deadpool is most often associated with the Cable, the bionic bad-ass from the future. The duo were made famous for their “odd couple” pairing, having a number of hilarious adventures together. But I wouldn’t peg Miller or Skrein as Cable.
Assuming FOX would be casting Miller and Skrein for characters from the pages of Deadpool, I’d liken either one to Bob, Agent of Hydra. Bob is an average agent, but is Deadpools biggest and only fan. He’d be a good comedic character/voice for Deadpool to play off of. However, HYDRA is probably a no go as that’s Marvel/Disney property. Deadpool is a spin-off from his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine – a FOX property. Unless the two studios want to work something out, which I doubt, FOX is limited on what rogues gallery of Deadpool characters they can choose from. Likely, TJ Miller or Ed Skrein will play original roles.
Tim Miller is directing the script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is set for release on February 12, 2016.
