It’s been eight long years since we all suffered through our first viewing of Ghost Rider. I’m not going to count the number of times I came across the movie while surfing channels, mainly because I never stayed to watch much past realizing that it was Ghost Rider and lamenting the horrible way the whole thing turned out. Now you can understand what went wrong in every excruciating detail.
CinemaSins lays it all out for you , one step at a time. Be sure to stay until the end though, there are some fantastically funny out-takes/voice overs/mashups that make the whole thing worth while.
Even Nicolas Cage‘s famous wackiness couldn’t save this movie. After you watch this video, do yourself a favor and go watch Leaving Las Vegas. It might show you what Cage could have done with Ghost Rider if there were a decent script and storyline somewhere even in the vicinity of the Ghost Rider set. Mark Stevens Johnson, yep that same guy that wrote the script for Ben Affleck‘s Daredevil also wrote Ghost Rider. Kinda makes a twisted sense doesn’t it?
The one good thing about the two Ghost Rider movies? They did so poorly at the box office, even with bankable, recognizable stars, that Sony finally just said screw it and gave the rights back to Marvel. Now we just have to wait for the public consciousness to forget those so Marvel can bring the character back to the big screen.
Although is I had to put money on it, I would say that we’ve got a much better chance of seeing a Ghost Rider television show or at lease the character make an appearance on one of Marvel’s television shows before we get a feature-length movie.
Like I said before, go watch Leaving Las Vegas. It might help wash that Ghost Rider movie out of your mind’s eye.
