The first 30 minutes of Robert Zemeckis’s 1989 time-travelling classic Back To The Future II takes place in the distant future – 2015. Inevitably, here we are at the beginning of 2015, and it is interesting to take note of the numerous predictions that the movie actually got right. With myriad predictions including: Eyewear (Google glasses), 3D movies (which are more popular than ever at the moment), Bionics, Automation (self-checkouts), Hands free technology (with the likes of games consoles such as the Nintendo Wii), and video calls (the dominance of Skype), and even Hoard-Board technology (Hendo Hoverboard). There are only a few things that have yet to be achieved, such as flying cars (like from BTTF), the Cubs winning a World Series, and Nike shoes with self powered laces. However, there are still 285 days to go until Back to the Future Day on the 21st of October, so there is still time for these things to develop.
It turns out that Tinker Hatfield and his team are working hard to make the Nike MAG, those shoes with self powered laces Marty McFly wore in the movie, become a reality.
Tinker Hatfield took the stage at #AgendaEmerge to talk about design, innovation, among many other things to a sold out crowd at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach, CA. It came as no surprise that many folk wanted information on a potential 2015 release of the Nike MAG, which were originally designed by Hatfield for Marty McFly to wear in the time-travelling classic Back To The Future II. There is no doubt Tinker expected this as he was happy to fill the crowd in on the development of promised shoe.
Tinker confirmed “that his team is working as hard as possible to deliver the Nike MAG in 2015 with Power Laces,” and also reminded us that we still have: “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015”.
So, we are definitely going to see the release of the Nike Mag, but as to when, that still remains unknown. Tinker had already confirmed in 2014 that we would see the Nike MAG in 2015 with Power Laces.
So there is a chance that by the time the Nike MAGS are released later on this year. Maybe in that same time we might be purchasing hover-boards to go with our newly acquired footwear, and maybe we’ll even by hitching a ride on the back of a flying car.
