While G.I. Joe: Retaliation didn’t exactly blow up the box office, it did earn more than double its production costs. That would usually grease the skids for another sequel, but we haven’t heard much of anything since the movie hit theater screens in 2013. It looks like Paramount is finally ready to saddle up G.I. Joe 3 and has been looking for a director. The word about the Internet is that DJ Caruso (Eagle Eye, I am Number Four) is high on Paramount’s list to take the director’s hot seat.
While the talks are still in the early stages, Deadline is reporting that sources say the talks are going well and Paramount may have found G.I. Joe 3‘s new director.
There’s no word on the return of any of the cast that includes some pretty big name Hollywood talent like Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and Ray Park.
I know a lot of you are saying to yourself:
Channing Tatum, didn’t his character Duke die?
You’re right of course, but I imagine that when Paramount sat down to get something started on G.I. Joe 3 some suit said:
So, Channing Tatum’s character… he’s not dead and comes back.. because Tatum is money in the bank. I don’t care how you do it, but bring back Duke.
Personally, I’d like to see him secretly rescued by the Baroness and brainwashed. Now he’s some shadowy figure used by the Baroness to do Cobra’s dirty deeds. I’m thinking some Winter Soldier type thing where Dwayne Johnson finds out Duke is the mysterious bad guy when Duke kills General Colton (the Bruce Willis character). Roadblock then tracks down his friend, but will he save him, or have to kill him?
Damn, It’s like these scripts just write themselves.
