Penny-Dreadful-Season-2-Trailer

Showtime‘s wonderfully macabre Penny Dreadful is returning to TV screens everywhere in April. The show made Nerd Bastards’ list of the Top 10 Nerdy shows of 2014, and if you haven’t seen it, it is well worth catching up on before the second season premiere. Led by Timothy Dalton as adventurer Sir Malcolm Murray and the demon possessed Vanessa Ives played by Eva Green, the first season followed Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), his creature Caliban (Rory Kinnear), the depraved Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), and American gun hand Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) as they faced evil supernatural forces in Victorian England. But what evil awaits them now in season two? Showtime has now given us a trailer.

Et Voila!

Well that was perfectly ominous. And awesome! Although I think there was more blue sky in that trailer than there was in the entire first season of the show.

At the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour, series creator John Logan extrapolated on the trailer saying that, “Last season, our heroes were hunters. This season, they’re hunted.”

But who’s hunting them? Well, if you’ve watched the show, you’ve met her, it’s Evelyn Poole, AKA: Madame Kali, played by Helen McCrory. If you watched the trailer but haven’t seen the show, she’s the woman enjoying the soothing blood bath. According to Logan though, that’s not really the sign of evil we think it is, at least in Evelyn Poole’s estimation. “She has a noble calling even though it runs counter to Sir Malcolm’s,” said Logan. “She might think she’s on the side of the angels, even though she’s on the side of the devils.”

From the sounds of things, Logan and his crew are definitely raising the stakes with this season of Penny Dreadful. “We sort of unleash hell in this season,” he said. “It’s our make or break season.”

Well, in my opinion Penny Dreadful has already made it, but if it has to me made further than the audience will have to decide for themselves when the show returns on April 26 at 10 pm on Showtime.
