All indications are pointing toward X-Men: Days of Future Past being the last time we’ll get the thrill of seeing Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen‘s Professor Xavier and Magneto. If the story line from the last movie wiping their existence in favor of the younger versions then perhaps Patrick Stewart’s own words are the final nail in their character’s coffins.
Yahoo Movies sat down with Stewart and discussed the possibilities, or lack of possibility of returning to his X-Men role.
There’s no real surprise that while the characters of Magneto and Professor X. will be on the big screen in the form of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, the movie plot-line virtually wrote them out of existence. They could show up in the future in some alternate time-line story, much like the Days of Future Past, or perhaps another dimension hoping story like House of Magneto.
They’ve passed the torch to the younger generation and done it magnificently. That doesn’t rule it completely out, but until some suit with way too much power starts messing with things, we’ve seen the last of Stewart and McKellen in X-Men movies.
Personally, I’d rather see Stewart back in the command chair in Star Trek with Mckellen joining him as a bad guy or something.
