‘Game of Thrones’ IMAX Trailer with Season 5 Peek!

This week IMAX released a trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones upcoming IMAX event where they will screen the season four episodes “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” back-to-back.  HBO’s fan favorite adaptation is the first TV program to be shown in IMAX, which is excellent news for the nerd community being that most of us are farsighted.  But wait, it gets better – this trailer also includes a glimpse of what is to come in season five.  Spoilers and such after the jump, sweetie…

The IMAX trailer is cool because, let’s be honest, it’s hard to find something that isn’t cool about Game of Thrones.  GOT is sort of like mac ‘n cheese – you have to try really hard to mess it up, and chances are your partner will eat half of it.  This trailer features a montage sequence of some of the more epic scenes from the previously mentioned episodes which have always been ripe for a big screen display.  While most IMAX project systems are visually stunning, we should remind our readers that the audio should be equally astounding.  Some might call this is a gimmick, but most of us are just screaming “take my money!”.

This teaser clip is quite interesting for fans of the G.R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series since it shows Tyrion stumble out of a box with quite a healthy beard.  Readers might recall his journey across the narrow seas during A Dance of Dragons, a journey that spans quite a lot of time and has its own host of characters.  How will show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss handle the timeline and characters presented in the later books vs. the continuity of the TV show?  Whatever their plan is they’ve gone on record to say that the show will go for 7 seasons total, so they’ve got 30 episodes to figure it all out.  Perhaps more importantly, that’s three more seasons of Funny Or Die’s Gay of Thrones web series.  “You gonna fly, girl”.

Game of Thrones IMAX Event runs from January 29th through February 5th.

Season 5 of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO Sunday, April 12th at 9PM.
