Anyone that’s seen enough video game movies knows that this particular genre is fraught with difficulties. Mostly they consist of bad scripts, lousy actors and directors with their heads up their asses. One of the better franchises is the Resident Evil series. They were nothing to write home about, of course, but at least they didn’t suck so bad that you wanted your money back. Unfortunately, even the little bit of goodness that showed up in the first of these films faded quickly as they got progressively worse. Now it looks like the powers-that-be are finally ready to pull the plug on the franchise and they’re going out with one final installment of Resident Evil. Read on for what details we’ve managed to find.
We know that the title of the final film will be, appropriately enough, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Furthermore, the star of the series, Milla Jovovich, posted something on her Facebook page that talked about the next movie (with particular attention to her having to deal with her second pregnancy):
I’m really proud of myself for not gaining the same amount of weight that I did with our first child (75 lbs.) because I have to be ready to start filming Resident Evil- The Final Chapter in August of this year and I will also be nursing an infant simultaneously (get ready wardrobe department for Alice’s new ‘easy mama access’ costume;)) so I don’t want to be on any extreme diets to get ready to go back to ‘action hero’ mode!
So we do know that the movie begins filming in August. We also know that the projected release date is September of 2016. Paul W.S. Anderson is back in the director’s chair as well, so we’ll either see a repeat of the marginally good movie that was the first film or yet another Resident Evil: Afterlife, which was, IMO, a pile of steaming crap. Still, when you go to watch zombie hordes terrorizing the world and getting killed by people with guns and swords, you learn to not expect too much.
What say the Nerd Readers? Are you excited to see another chapter in the Resident Evil saga? Or just relieved that it will all finally come to a (hopefully) permanent end?
