Things are happening in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse production. We recently found out that Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen won’t be back, and now word around the Internet is that Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood, The Bourne Legacy), who’ll be playing En Sabah Nur, or Apocalypse as X-Men comics fan know him, is gearing up for some costume fittings and special effects pre-production.
It looks like we’ll get the full gambit… (and some Tatum) of special effects including both practical and digital when it comes to Apocalypse’s on-screen appearances. Isaac says:
It’ll be a mix [of practical and digital, I haven’t had a script so I haven’t had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology.
I’m glad it’s not just some motion capture work for this character. He needs to feel larger than life, but still be grounded. We’ll be seeing his facial expressions as well as his other acting talents when he takes on the role.
After we finish here I’m heading to do a head cast [for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’], which they do often. You spend 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the make up and all that stuff, which is pretty fun.
Isaac had earlier talked about Apocalypse’s powers with Comingsoon:
(The costume) hasn’t been figured out yet, but one of his major powers is being able to change all the molecules in his body. So I’ll be changing all the molecules in my body… It’s gonna be a lot of fun.
Here’s a scene from the X-Men cartoon that shows how Apocalypse’s powers work:
Filming starts this April for the May 27th, 2016 release date. As we get more and more pictures, information, and interviews hitting the Internet, we’ll bring them to you here.
What mutant are you most looking forward to seeing in this latest X-Men movie?
