I could sit here all day and act like it’s 2014 and I’m rushing home after seeing ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ to write to you about how cool it was, but I won’t. Mostly because it’s 2015 and I’m sure I did that already. A couple of times, in fact, and threw in a bit of awesomeness about the soundtrack to boot. Instead, I’ll talk a little bit about Lee Pace and his portrayal of Ronan The Accuser, one of Marvel’s greatest space baddies. The character nicely translated from comic book page to really big screen, and some of it had to do with Pace’s delivery, though some writers will disagree. Well, I hope you guys got your fill of him because Ronan’s on the road to nowhere fast.
Director James Gunn’s no Steven DeKnight but he will randomly take to social media and vaguely answer some questions. In this particular case, one fan professed admiration for Ronan and asked Gunn if we’d see him again on screen. Gunn’s always noncommittal about things like this because you never know what script changes will occur, what rights he might end up being able to use, or what a studio will greenlight. He was pretty committal with his answer this time though.
But will he be in the GOTG sequel though? Come on man, answer the tough questions!
And just like that…he’s gone. Even though Pace as gone on the record saying he’d like to play the role again, Gunn has other stories to tell and seems to be moving on. And I’m okay with that because as much as I love Tom Hiddleson’s Loki, the Avengers have other people to fight. Can’t go making the first Avengers movie over and over again like Sam Raimi remaking ‘Evil Dead’ and calling it ‘Evil Dead 2.’ Might Ronan show up again? Of course. Thanos is looming over the outer rim with a golden glove on one hand and he’s looking for gems to put on it. Ronan’s apartment is somewhere nearby and I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t be seen out raking the yard in somebody’s upcoming film. Or post-credit scene. Or a cap to a GOTG trilogy, should there be one. Hell, ‘Infinity War 2’ sounds like hell will break loose in a way that we could see EVERYBODY in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Ronan The Accuser. Just not in ‘Guardians 2.’
