Is this a case of a Pratt trifecta? Well, not quite, but it’s certainly shaping up that way with this latest casting rumor. Coming off the back of one of the biggest films of 2014 Guardians Of The Galaxy and leading up to a new Jurassic Park, Chris Pratt is now reportedly being eyed by Disney to star in the planned revival of the Indiana Jones franchise.
The news comes from Deadline, who stipulated that nothing is set in stone yet. But, the reports are stating that Disney are in the very early stages of reviving the Indiana Jones franchise, and they want to build the franchise around Pratt. So, he would essentially be playing the iconic role of plucky archaeologist Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones in the original trilogy, which helped cement Harrison Fords A-list status as Hollywood’s all-round go-to action-star.
There has been talk of a new Indiana Jones film ever since Steven Speilberg and George Lucas gave us the abominable Crystal Skull, with rumors suggesting that Shia Labeouf would be taking over the role of the iconic whip-wielding homage to the action stars of the 1930s: Indiana Jones. However, this was before Labeouf unleashed his inner demons and decided to embarrassingly prance around plagiarizing French soccer players like a complete ass! Even after Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012 progress on part five of the franchise remained slow, but when the company gained the distribution rights back from Paramount, Disney CEO Bob Iger piqued the interest of fans after claiming last year that “[he’d] love to do more Indiana Jones.” So, as it stands, it looks like the plans are to concentrate on getting the Star Wars franchise up and running before focusing on reviving the Indiana Jones franchise.
In addition to Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the LEGO Movie sequel and Jurrasic World, Pratt has also signed to star in Universals comic book adaptation Cowboy Ninja Viking, and he is in talks to star in Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven remake with Denzel Washington.
With Pratt’s ability to pull off the action/serious/funny guy package, he certainly fits the bill for an Indiana Jones movie. However, just like Jurassic World doesn’t know whether it wants to be a sequel or a reboot, the idea of a revival scares me a little. But, hey, …maybe I’m just bull-whipped?!
What do you guys reckon to an overdose of Prattage? Do you think Star-Lord will be able to fill Harisson Fords boots as Indy? Does the photoshopped image below sway ya?
Let us know your thoughts peeps!
