Well, I guess it’s out there now. Paul Feig, the director of the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, just took to Twitter to reveal his new cast.  Yes it’s true. This cast has no dick. Read on through to find out which female SNL and Bridemaids stars will be headlining this remake of director Ivan Reitman’s 1984 comedy classic.

The all-female lead assembly will feature Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat, Tammy), Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live, Top Five) and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live, Life Partners).

So it’s basically Bridesmaids 2: Things Get Scary

Feig’s take on the property is said to be targeting a scarier tone that will not maintain any continuity with the original film or its 1989 sequel. It will be a whole new set of ghost-busting entrepreneurs in a world that hasn’t seen a giant marshmallow man destroying New York City, nor a mobile version of the Statue of Liberty.

It won’t be completely without humor, however. All Ghostbusters flicks, including this one, are first and foremost comedy films with horror elements thrown in. Paul Feig just wants this one to be a little more frightening. And I presume funnier too, but we shall see.

I, for one, just don’t understand why it’s not in continuity with the originals. The Ghostbusters name will always be synonymous with the orignal cast and tone of the first one. This approach will allow Feig to revisit the property with a fresh take and without feeling bound to the original, but rebooting makes it a harder sell to life-long fans of the franchise. I suppose he’s aiming at creating an entirely new audience for Ghostbusters? With all the hate this movie’s been receiving so far, new viewers may be his only audience.

And while I don’t have any problems with a female cast, the type of humor that this particular casting list seems to be aiming for is questionable. The original gets all its charm from quick wit and deadpan delivery. I hope we’re not going to be seeing two hours of Melissa McCarthy pratfalls or people suffering from uncontrollable diarrhea. On the other hand, all four actresses are funny yet have different personalities, so maybe we’ll see some of the same magic pop up that the original cast had?

What do all of the Nerd Readers out there think of this line-up? Are you ready for an all-female Ghostbusters? Is there anyone you’d replace? And if so, which actress would you throw into the mix?
