It won’t be completely without humor, however. All Ghostbusters flicks, including this one, are first and foremost comedy films with horror elements thrown in. Paul Feig just wants this one to be a little more frightening. And I presume funnier too, but we shall see.
I, for one, just don’t understand why it’s not in continuity with the originals. The Ghostbusters name will always be synonymous with the orignal cast and tone of the first one. This approach will allow Feig to revisit the property with a fresh take and without feeling bound to the original, but rebooting makes it a harder sell to life-long fans of the franchise. I suppose he’s aiming at creating an entirely new audience for Ghostbusters? With all the hate this movie’s been receiving so far, new viewers may be his only audience.
And while I don’t have any problems with a female cast, the type of humor that this particular casting list seems to be aiming for is questionable. The original gets all its charm from quick wit and deadpan delivery. I hope we’re not going to be seeing two hours of Melissa McCarthy pratfalls or people suffering from uncontrollable diarrhea. On the other hand, all four actresses are funny yet have different personalities, so maybe we’ll see some of the same magic pop up that the original cast had?
What do all of the Nerd Readers out there think of this line-up? Are you ready for an all-female Ghostbusters? Is there anyone you’d replace? And if so, which actress would you throw into the mix?
