Before he was the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the weekly adventures of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Phil Coulson was the guy that kept popping up around the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the everyman that made contact with all of the Avengers before they became Avengers. Everybody liked Coulson, which is why it was such a gut punch when Loki killed him in the first Avengers movie. Of course, the popularity of the character, and the actor who portrays him, Clark Gregg, led to his resurrection on TV, and a transfer to the comic books and the regular Marvel Four-Color Universe. But the question on a lot of people’s mind is whether or not Coulson might be back to lend the Avengers a hand in the upcoming sequel Agent of Ultron? And according to rumor control, he might be.

Courtesy of a Reddit user who calls himself, or herself, “the_marvel_intern”, not only will Coulson put in an appearance in Age of Ultron, so will a couple of key members of his S.H.I.E.L.D. team.

In Age of Ultron, cast of Agents Of Shield show up. May, Daisy, Coulson, etc.

Interesting, but obviously we’ve got to take this information with a grain of salt because “the_marvel_intern” isn’t exactly a name that suggests verifiable intel, even if he or she were an actual Marvel intern. I believe there was previously a rumor that B.J. Britt had a role in Age of Ultron playing his S.H.I.E.L.D. character Agent Triplett, but you’ll recall that he died in the midseason finale of S.H.I.E.L.D., so his being alive to fight Ultron in a few months seems all the more unlikely.

On another matter, what are the semantics of “etc.” Does that mean the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. team is going to be a part of the film in some way, like Fitz/Simmons and Mockingbird. As fun as that would be, especially seeing Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird team-up with future husband Hawkeye (played of course by Jeremy Renner), it already seems as though Age of Ultron is pretty stocked. With six Avengers from the previous film, plus three new ones, plus Ultron and confirmed cameos from other characters like Nick Fury, Loki and Heimdall, it’s not quite a cast of thousands, but it’s starting to feel like it.

As nice as it would be if Age of Ultron turned out to be an all-star affair with appearances by just about everyone and Stan Lee that’s had a big enough role in the MCU, until there’s a piece of footage showing Coulson on screen with Cap, Iron Man, Thor et al we will remain suspicious.

In other piece of interesting rumor mongering from “the_marvel_intern,” is the mention of the lay out of the rest of the Infinity Gems. He/she confirmed that Loki’s staff is the Mind Gem, and that the final two Infinity stones will be found in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Doctor Strange respectively, thus putting them all in play just in time for Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. He also suggests that Marvel is looking at Dan Stevens from The Guest as a potential Iron Fist, that the studio is having a tough time trying to settle on a director for Thor: Ragnarok, and that Ant-Man screenwriter Adam McKay is someone who “knows his stuff” when it comes to Marvel characters. Again, all fascinating details, but nothing verifiable.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters everywhere on May 1. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on March 3 on ABC.
