Many fans were disappointed when Patrick Stewart commented back in January that he didn’t think he or Ian McKellen would be reprising their X-Men roles in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Age of Apocalypse. Some wondered if we’d ever see them back as Professor Xavier and Magento ever again. Fear not though, it seems that both Sirs will be returning to the big screen to play those iconic X-Men roles, maybe just not in the same movie together.
Stewart was recently talking with Oregon Live and set the record straight.
Yes, I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next “X-Men” movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal, but Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it.
That must mean that there will be some more time traveling or flash forwards in the movie. We’ll be seeing Michael Fassbender‘s younger Magneto in the movie, probably much more than McKellen’s older version, but there must be some critical scene in which the older version is needed. Perhaps they could even come face to face at some point? Mind-blowing, I know.
That wasn’t the only news Sir Stewart had for fans. He also let slip that he’s currently in talks to appear in the next Wolverine movie with Hugh Jackman.
And what I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of “X-Men” from the four movies that I’ve already done.
OK, now I just want to go sit in my bunk and think happy thoughts. Could this mean that Old Man Logan might be the story line for the next Wolverine movie? That would require an older Xavier. Maybe we could finally see this scene from the Pete Holmes Show come to life on the big screen:
Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse hits theater screens May 27th, 2016. James Mangold’s Wolverine II: The Search For More Snikt’s is scheduled for release sometime in 2017.
What do you think? I’m all for more Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen X-Men movie roles, let’s go ahead and slip them into the Gambit movie and anything else X-Men… it couldn’t hurt.
